Nearly all of the area we've visited in NM and TX are part of the Chihuahuan Desert. Primarily sand, rocks, sand, 4 kinds of cactus and sand.
And water is king...everything revolves around it...
Sitting Bull Falls....
While people come to see the falls, the entrance road leading to the falls follows the natural outflow of the creek bed, and the area is very picturesque on it's own righr..almosst like rock carved statues and figures.
And the falls...
Near Carlsbad Caverns, it is fed by a large, apparently always flowing spring which is the primary source for the nearly 150' tall falls, rather than most falls based on rivers or rain water runoff.
The area is exactly like an Oasis should be - lovely green, with hidden pools of cold water.
The sound of the falling, splashing water reverberates around the canyon walls.
It's the sound which takes the lead...pure, thought provoking music, generating a mood of peace and contemplation.
I know now why Japanese gardens try to mimic the sound of falling water...but it's not even close.
It is only after climbing to the top of the falls and back trailing the water source, does one realize how unique the free flowing spring actually is.
There are not too many hills taller than the falls, so it is almost as if the spring is bubbling up from a much lower source.
There are trails in the falls area leading to the top of the falls, and Judy, bless her heart is becoming quite the daredevil in tackling some of the higher, steeper trails...meaning she's hiking willingly where steps, narrow trails and heights are involved.
It's exciting to see some of the challenges she has mastered...think she is turning
Let the adventure continue...
