Not What Was Expected...

We got back to the RV after 4 days of skiing, and other than the Fox being a bit dejected from being left behind, all was well.  So we hitched up Clyde and headed for the Great Sand Dune National Park.

Blanca, Colorado...population 392.

And for a couple of days, it was 394.

Blanca is the coldest and closest town to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and it barely survives under the armpit of Mt. Blanca.

Which is a wonderfully beautiful mountain at sunrise...

And also lovely during the day, with it's own micro climate and snow making capability...

And Blanca (the town) is colder than an Eskimo's freezer in mid-winter, situated between 2 major mountain ranges which keeps the cold frigid air locked in.

And there is an RV campground in Blanca...but DON'T GO THERE!

The first site assigned had a floating ground in the 30 Amp service...so, in the worst case, your RV develops what is called skin voltage.

Since there is no ground provided by the electric panel, the RV can build up voltage on the outside skin of the RV.

Yup, you guessed it!

Touch the RV and you become the ground.

And all the park kids start screaming as they come running joyously to toast marshmallows over your smoldering carcass.

Now that is the worst case...maybe nothing will happen...or maybe just a little tingle when you touch it...hard to predict which.

(But not to worry, smart travelers always check first with a power meter that looks for this issue before plugging in...but not all RV travelers are smart!)

And the only other available site in Blanca had a frozen water line (did I mention Blanca is cold?)...but it had good power!

OK, we'll take it and make due.  The Fox has its own fresh water tank and we can survive for 2 days using our water.

And so, we are camped 15 miles from the Great Sand Dune National Park, excited to be off to see it in the morning!

Remember this post...Blanca only gets worse!

Let the adventure continue...
