The Mighty Mississississippi...

We left OBX the day after Christmas, with an unmemorable stop in Asheville, not that the Asheville area has nothing to offer, but we were on a mission, so just passing thru...

Then on to Memphis, with no big expectations set in advance.

Stayed at a great little RV park, Tom Sawyer's, RIGHT on the Mississippi River.  Noticeably peaceful and quiet, although it was fairly full of holiday travelers.

We are learning to be pretty efficient with over-night stays.  Tag teaming the tasks required, both inside and outside, we can be ready for adventure in about 15 minutes, whether that is unhitching Clyde at the end of the day, or getting the Fox on the road in the morning.

And in Memphis, I think we lucked into one of the best spots in the park with a grand view of the river.

One of the park's unique features IS being right on the river!

And since the park is on the river side of the levee system, it can actually be underwater when the Mississippi leaves it's banks during severe spring flooding.

Although that is of little concern for mobile RV'ers, with flood forecasting quite advanced and millions spent on monitoring and predicting the entire Mississippi River valley water levels weeks in advance.

It is impressive standing 5 feet from the Mississippi...you can almost feel the movement of the sheer mass of water, hundreds of yards across, constantly rolling toward the ocean at a speed faster than one can walk...it is near awesome...

In thinking about it, while the river flooding out of it's banks is of no immediate concern for RV'ers, it does make it risky for long-termers, preventing them from homesteading the park.

We are finding that long-term park residents can make some RV parks a little dodgy...(and did we ever learn that lesson in Trinidad, CO...which is another story!)

Let the adventure continue...
